July 2026 marked a significant milestone in my academic journey as I had the honor of representing Vietnam at ICOA 2026 (International Cyber Olympiad in AI), an international competition focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Cybersecurity, held in Sydney, Australia.

ICOA is recognized as one of the world’s pioneering competitions for secondary school students, combining Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and real-world problem-solving skills. The competition brought together talented students from many countries and regions, including Australia, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Peru, and many others, creating a diverse and highly competitive international environment.

To earn a place in the international finals, I first competed in the Vietnamese national qualifying round in June 2026. I was honored to achieve First Place nationwide, becoming one of Vietnam’s official representatives at the ICOA 2026 Finals in Australia. This achievement was both a great honor and a strong motivation to give my very best on the international stage.

The trip itself was especially meaningful because it was my first time traveling to Australia and also my first experience attending an international competition entirely on my own. From preparing travel documents and adapting to a new environment to communicating in English and managing a demanding competition schedule, everything was a brand-new experience. Although I felt nervous at first, the warm support from the organizers, mentors, volunteers, and fellow contestants helped me quickly settle in and enjoy the event.

What makes ICOA unique is that it goes beyond testing traditional programming or cybersecurity knowledge. Contestants are challenged to apply AI techniques to solve cybersecurity problems, including threat analysis, vulnerability detection, and defensive strategies. At the same time, the competition explores how AI systems themselves can become targets of cyberattacks, highlighting the growing importance of securing AI technologies. This reflects one of the most exciting and rapidly evolving areas in modern computer science.

After several days of intense competition alongside outstanding students from around the world, I was proud to be awarded the Silver Medal at ICOA 2026. This medal represents not only the countless hours of study, preparation, and perseverance but also a memorable achievement in my first international competition as a member of Team Vietnam.

Beyond the competition, I also had the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Sydney, visit iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and connect with students from different cultures and backgrounds. Conversations about artificial intelligence, technology, and future career aspirations broadened my perspective and inspired me to continue pursuing excellence in AI and cybersecurity.

ICOA 2026 will always remain one of the most memorable experiences of my high school years. Winning a Silver Medal while representing Vietnam on the international stage was a tremendous honor, but the journey itself was even more valuable. It strengthened my confidence, expanded my global perspective, and reinforced my determination to continue learning and contributing to the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. I believe this achievement is not the destination, but rather the beginning of an even greater journey ahead.

Hành trình ICOA 2026 tại Australia – Trải nghiệm đầu tiên trên đấu trường AI & An ninh mạng quốc tế

Tháng 7/2026 là một cột mốc đặc biệt trong hành trình học tập của mình khi có cơ hội đại diện Việt Nam tham dự ICOA 2026 (International Cyber Olympiad in AI) – cuộc thi quốc tế về ứng dụng trí tuệ nhân tạo (AI) trong lĩnh vực an ninh mạng, được tổ chức tại Sydney, Australia. Đây được giới thiệu là một trong những sân chơi tiên phong dành cho học sinh trung học, kết hợp giữa kiến thức Cybersecurity, AI và tư duy giải quyết vấn đề trong các tình huống thực tế. Cuộc thi quy tụ các đội tuyển đến từ nhiều quốc gia trên khắp thế giới như Australia, Việt Nam, Trung Quốc, Indonesia, Thái Lan, Anh, Peru…  

Để có mặt tại vòng chung kết, mình đã tham gia vòng tuyển chọn quốc gia vào tháng 6/2026 và may mắn đạt Top 1 Việt Nam, qua đó trở thành một trong những đại diện của đội tuyển Việt Nam sang Australia tranh tài cùng các thí sinh quốc tế.

Đây cũng là lần đầu tiên mình đặt chân đến Australia, đồng thời là lần đầu tiên tự một mình tham dự một cuộc thi ở nước ngoài. Từ việc chuẩn bị hồ sơ, làm quen với môi trường mới, gặp gỡ và làm quen với nhiều bạn bè đến từ khắp các quốc gia trên thế giới, sử dụng hoàn toàn tiếng Anh trong giao tiếp, cho đến việc thích nghi với lịch trình thi đấu dày đặc đều là những trải nghiệm hoàn toàn mới. Ban đầu mình khá hồi hộp, nhưng chính sự thân thiện của các tình nguyện viên, các thầy cô , ban tổ chức cuộc thi và bạn bè quốc tế đã giúp mình nhanh chóng hòa nhập.

Điểm đặc biệt của ICOA là các bài thi không chỉ kiểm tra kiến thức về lập trình hay an ninh mạng truyền thống mà còn yêu cầu thí sinh biết khai thác AI như một công cụ hỗ trợ bảo mật, đồng thời hiểu cách phát hiện, phân tích và xử lý các nguy cơ bảo mật khi AI trở thành mục tiêu của các cuộc tấn công. Điều này phản ánh xu hướng rất mới của ngành công nghệ, khi AI ngày càng đóng vai trò quan trọng trong cả việc phòng thủ lẫn tấn công an ninh mạng.  

Sau nhiều ngày tranh tài, mình rất vui và tự hào khi đạt Huy chương Bạc (Silver Medal) tại ICOA 2026. Tấm huy chương không chỉ là kết quả của quá trình học tập và luyện tập, mà còn là món quà ý nghĩa đánh dấu lần đầu tiên mình bước ra sân chơi quốc tế với tư cách một thành viên của đội tuyển Việt Nam.

Bên cạnh cuộc thi, mình còn có cơ hội khám phá thành phố Sydney, tham quan Nhà hát Opera Sydney, Cầu cảng Sydney và gặp gỡ nhiều bạn học sinh đến từ các nền văn hóa khác nhau. Những cuộc trò chuyện về công nghệ, AI và định hướng nghề nghiệp đã giúp mình mở rộng góc nhìn và có thêm nhiều động lực để tiếp tục tìm hiểu sâu hơn về lĩnh vực trí tuệ nhân tạo cũng như an ninh mạng trong tương lai.

ICOA 2026 chắc chắn sẽ là một trong những dấu mốc đáng nhớ nhất của tuổi học trò. Mình tin rằng đây không phải là đích đến, mà là bước khởi đầu cho hành trình chinh phục những thử thách lớn hơn trong lĩnh vực AI và Cybersecurity trên đấu trường quốc tế.
